Ship Plan

Happy that the animals, especially the moose and caribou, had recently and dramatically fallen from grace, the hunters went quickly about killing what they could justify.  The task became easier, and then ever easier.
Sven and Buddy, after what was an undeniably long and trying day, sat down around a bucket of mango margaritas to, well, shoot the shit (haha, they’d been doing that for hours…they noted).  Piano music curled in the rich cigar smoke above their table.  Ah, Jimmy Buffet.  The ship, 3800 rooms, drifted by the southernmost reaches of Kamchatka.  The Life!  Really, though.  Sven.  This rifraff.  Gotta do something.

“At the time, with the information she had, [Ms. Palin] made the right decision”
A favorite phrase. Perhaps we can think of something to say for ensuring one has good information before setting about making “right decision[s]“. The rashness with which these political-types approach their responsibilities to make informed decisions is disturbing. I do not think that Palin is alone in this, but the political right seems to especially abhor research. Perhaps data and other objective wishwash reflects, in their culture, a lack of virtue or faith. People who doubt themselves, in this view, must also doubt god who probably begins to doubt them in turn. Divine inspiration dries up, and all the AynRandish fun of
neo-Macchiavellian politics ends with it.

Yes, we need some hot little mavericks to stir this country up, to get things going, keep us on our toes. Eight years of careful, cautious policies have led to outright stagnation in our capitol swamp, which has become in its lethargy something quite far from a moral high ground. Mickayne and Pal’in’ have both demonstrated an astonishing capacity for asserting themselves gatekeepers to our city on the hill absent any reference to their respective altitudes. Strange. McCain, a polygamist, and Palin, a happy grandmother sans soninlaw ,can surely attest to the spiritual and civic importance of folks who have strikingly different genitalia getting married as well as the efficacy of abstinence-only education. We must all remember that had Mary been on the pill we would all be going to hell though Joseph probably would have felt less awkward in his waning years. And so, appropriately, the fin de siecle carnival can happen now, perpetuated by the eldest who missed it the first few times around and suffered by those aware of the times or having calendars. What gives them the right, anyway?
